Press Club honours journalists

New Delhi, Feb 18 (UNI) The Press Club of India has honoured five senior journalists of Jammu and Kashmir including Om Saraf and Pran Nath Jalali for their immense contribution in the development of free press in the state.

The three journalists given the awards posthumously were Sadaruddin Mujahid,a close associate of Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah, Mohammed Yousaf Qadri, who worked for Daily ''Khidmat'' and Sat Sahni, former Director General of State Information Bureau.

Recalling their contribution, Rahul Jalali, president of the Press Club of India, said they worked fearlessly even under adverse political situations.

Appreciating their efforts in promotion and development of journalism in the state, Jammu and Kashmir Finance Minister Taeiq Hamid Kara presented the trophies.

Deputy Director Doordarshan, Shabbir Mujahid received the award on behalf of his late father Sadaruddin Mujahid, who had also served as president of the Working Journalist Association in the state.

Mr Jalali said late Mohammed Yousaf Qadri's award will be sent to Srinagar to his son Ghulam Jeelani Qadri.
