Nandigram unrest continues
Nandigram, Feb 18 (UNI) Fresh violence broke out in Nandigram when members of Bhoomi Uchched Protirodh Committee allegedly abducted a CPI(M) supporter and damaged several houses at Gokulnagar today as panic strikcen villagers continued to leave homes for safety.
Police said the husband of the local gram panchayat pradhan was abducted by the resistance committee members in the chain of violent incidents that started yesterday.
A number of houses of CPI(M) supporters were also allegedly attacked and damaged, they said.
Yesterday's trouble started ending a month-long lull when members of Bhoomi Uchched Protirodh Committee clashed with CPI(M) supporters, who entered Gokulnagar in a procession from Khejuri.
Bombs were freely exchanged and gunshots were fired while more than a dozen houses had been set ablaze.
