Mamata undergoes surgery
Kolkata, Feb 18 (UNI) Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee underwent a gall bladder surgery in a city nursing home today as doctors removed stones from her body.
Ms Banerjee was admitted to the nursing home last night after she complained of pain in her abdomen.
The doctors attending on the Trinamool leader said the operation was successful and she was ''doing fine''.
She would be kept in the nursing home for a few days for observation, the doctors said.
Ms Banerjee was diagnosed with having gall bladder stones during a thorough investigation of her health when she was undergoing treatment in the nursing home after calling off her 25-day hunger strike in December last.
When she was discharged from the nursing home on January 17 following a 20-day treatment, Ms Banerjee was told by the doctors that she needed to be operated upon, but it was her weak health after prolonged fast that required the surgery to be put off for about a month.
