Governor opens AeSI meet
Kochi, Feb 18 (UNI) Kerala Governor R L Bhatia today inaugurated the the 58th Annual General Meeting of the Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI) and a seminar on 'Aviation Infrastructure in India'.
Addressing a gathering here, Mr Bhatia said India should update itself to match the evolving perceptions in relation to complex situation relating to air transport, aerospace business and research.
He noted after the September 11 incidents, the parameters and priorities for future growth in aviation sector were redefined.
The Governor welcomed the efforts of the society in reviewing the country's aeronautical policy and exploring the under-developed regional transportation system.
He also praised AeSI's continuous effort to raise the standard of the executive and regulatory authorities for development of air transport potential.
Delivering his presidential address, ISRO Chairman G Madhavan Nair said the aviation infrastructure should be upgraded to accomodate the growth in the aerospace and the aviation sector.
He said the air traffic has increased manifold with the entry of low-cost airlines in the sector.
Apart from the infrastructure, the human resource development in the sector should also be taken by establishing quality training institutes in the sector.
Mr Nair, also president of AeSI, said an Aeronautical Commission would be set up by the Centre to monitor the development of the aviation industry in the country.
He said the country has progressed a lot in space technology with the launch of various satellites for dissemination of information.
The sucessful recovery of space capsule was a proud moment for the ISRO, he noted.
