Arunachal: PIB to campaign on Centre's prog

Itanagar, Feb 18: The Press Information Bureau (PIB) will begin afour-day national level Public Information Campaign on the Centre'svarious sponsored schemes at Daporijo, in Arunachal's Upper Subansiridistrict, from February 22.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had expressed his desire thatawareness campaigns on centrally sponsored schemes should be conductedthroughout the country by the PIB.

The programmes included in the campaign are the Bharat NirmanProgramme, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Right to Information Act, Mid-DayMeal Programme, National Rural Health Mission, National RuralEmployment Guarantee Act, Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban RenewalMission, Integrated Child Development Service Scheme, Prime Minister'sNew 15-point programme for the welfare of the minorities and campaignon HIV/AIDS which have been launched in various parts of the country.

Besides, the PIB would record the feedback of the people here and forward it to the Prime Minister's Office.

Beneficiaries would directly interacting with officials headed by the concerned deputy commissioners.

The campaign's objective is to empower the poor and illiterate peopleliving in rural areas about these programmes, create awareness of theirrights and responsibilities and also motivate them for greaterparticipation to benefit from these schemes. Besides, it would recordsuccess stories of the direct and indirect benefits from the programmesand create a network of information channels for the rapid flow ofinformation to the public.

Addressing mediapersons here last evening, PIB deputy directorgeneral B Narzary informed that the Centre had identified 200 districtsunder the National Rural Employment Generation Assurance (NREGA)programmes for the campaign.

''Daporijo under Upper Subansiri district is the only place shortlisted by the Centre to conduct this exercise in the state,'' he said.

Mr Narzary further informed that the same campaign would beorganised during February-March next in eight other NREGA covereddistricts of the North East including West Garo Hills district ofMeghalaya, Dhemaji and Cachar districts of Asom, Mon in Nagaland,Tamenlong in Manipur and Saiha in Mizoram.

Field publicity joint director Khoda Pussang meanwhile added thatthe department would also set up exhibition stalls, organise culturalprogrammes and visit the villages to obtain people's feedback.
