Anti-dam organisation flays PM's visit

Imphal, Feb 18 (UNI) The Action Committee Against Tipaimukh Project (ACTIP) denounced the visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Tamenglong district today.

The ACTIP said the visit would confuse the people of Manipur and legitimise violation of laws by the Centre with regard to laying of the foundation stone of the project.

The Centre has decided to construct the controversial Tipaimukh dam in Manipur and the Prime Minister had announced that the project would be taken up soon.

The ACTIP said the losses would be more than the gains after the construction of the dam.

It charged that the PMO was trying to force the Environment Ministry to give a clearance certificate when the case did not deserve it.
