TDP demands immediate elections in UP
Hyderabad, Feb 17 (UNI) Opposition Telugu Desam Party(TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu today demanded immediate elections in Uttar Pradesh(UP) in a democratic manner.
Talking to newspersons here, he alleged that the United Progressive Alliance(UPA) Government was trying to misuse the Article 356 and create problems for the present UP Government headed by Mulayam Singh.
Mr Naidu alleged that it had become a practice for the Congress to misuse the Article 356 and powers of Governors. TDP was opposed to the Governor system in the country, he added.
He said the strength of the members should be decided in the assembly but not by the Governor. The Governors should not interefere in politics and should act independently, he added.
The TDP supremo said the party would launch an agitation nationwide with the like-minded parties, if the UPA Government create problems for the Mulayam Singh Government by misusing the artcle 356.
He urged the Election Commission to intervene and order elections for the UP, which was due by May this year.
He said the Samajawadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh had discussed with him the developments in his State. He would discuss with Mr Mulayam Singh tonight, Mr Naidu added.
