MCD reserved category wards notified
New Delhi, Feb 17 (UNI) Close on the heels of increasing the number of wards for the poll-bound MCD House, the state Election Commission today notified the wards under the reserved category for the municipal body.
Earlier it had notified increase in the number of seats in the House from 134 to 272.
Of the total number of seats 76 have been reserved for women and 46 for scheduled Caste. As many as 16 seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste women.
The elections for the MCD House are scheduled to be held in March end or first week of April.
The notification has been issued after the Delhi Legislative Assembly passed a Bill seeking to more than double the number of seats in the MCD house.
The Delhi Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Bill 2007 was passed at a special session of the Delhi Legislative Assembly called to discuss the draft proposals of the Master Plan 2021.
The objective of the Bill is to have one MCD ward per 50,000 people in a particular area.
