Kalam to launch Suvarna Gramodaya Scheme

Gulbarga, Feb 17 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam will pay a one day visit to Karnataka and launch ''Suvarna Gramodaya'' scheme in Srinivas Saradagi, a remote village in Chittapur taluk of Gulbarga District, on February 25.

Disclosing this at a press conference here today, Chittapur Legislator Viswanath Patil Hebbal said that Saradagi was one of the 1,012 villages in the State selected under the scheme for development of infrastructure and basic amenities.

''Mr Kalam would formally launch the scheme at a function in which Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and Deputy Chief Minister B S Yadiyurappa would also participate,'' he added.

Mr Hebbal said that Rs 7.5 crore had been earmarked for development works in this village. A minimum of Rs One crore would be spent in each of the villages selected under the scheme and funds would be released in proportionate to the population, he added.

Srinivas Saradagi is a small village in backward Hyderabad-Karnataka region with a population of about 6000. This was for the first time that a VVIP would be visiting the village.

During his stay President would interact with the students of the Government Model Primary School.
