International Teaching Award for HAU Professor

Hisar, Feb 17: Britain's International Biographical Centre (IBC) has selected Dr. Ved Pal Singh, Professor of Agronomy at the CCS Haryana Agriculture University, for the Plato Award in recognition of his significant contribution in the field of teaching.

The award will be presented to Dr Singh, an agronomist of international repute with specialisation in crop production and irrigation management, at the IBC World Forum to be held in July 2007 in Washington.

Dr Singh, who obtained his PhD from Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University itself is at present working as Professor of Agronomy there, teaching crop production, soil-plant- water relations, mineral nutrition of plants and irrigation management. He has guided 11 MSc and four PhD students in their thesis.

Dr Singh, has also worked for one year (August 2003- August 2004) as Visiting Professor of Plant Biology at the University of the Americas, Puebia, Mexico.

He has published several research papers in national and international journals and about 25 book chapters and 24 review articles.

He is the 'Regional Editor' of two international journals namely 'Asian Journal of Plant Science' published by the ANSInet, Faisalabad, Pakistan and 'Journal of Food, Agriculture and Environment' published by the International Society of Food, Agriculture and Environment, Helsinki, Finland.

A member of several professional societies, Dr Singh has travelled widely in USA, UK, Germany, France, China and Nepal on academic pursuits.
