Dy CM warns against tax evaders

Hubli, Feb 17 (UNI) Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa today warned tax evaders of stringent action including against ow those who evade paying Value Added Tax (VAT).

Addressing members of the Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) here, he said that despite Government's sincere efforts pilferage continue in tax collection affecting the State revenue, making it difficult to implement its commitment to the people.

Mr Yediyurappa said that the government was ready to think seriously of amending the VAT to eradicate all confusions in it.

The government has committed to eradicate sale of arrrack which may cost Rs 950 Crore to the state exchequer. To fill this gap he sought cooperation of KCCI.

Earlier, unveiling a statue of 12th century Social reformer Basaveshwar, built at a cost of Rs 16.5 lakhs, he said that the government would provide a grant of Rs Once crore for setting up a Study Centre for 12th Century reformer Bassaveshwar in Karnataka University, Dharawad.

Mr Yediyurappa said that Rs One Crore would be spent on translating Basaveshwar's Vachanas in to Indian languages besides English.
