Third judge orders repoll in 98 Chennai Corpn wards
Chennai, Feb 16 (UNI) Repoll to 98 Chennai Corporation wards was today ordered by the third judge of Madras High Court, before whom the case relating to demand for repoll in the Corporation was referred after a split verdict in the case.
Concurring with Justice F M Ibrahim Kalifullah, who had ordered repoll in 99 wards, Justice P K Misra held that elections in these wards were not held in a free and fair manner.
Justice Misra ordered repoll in 98 wards as Mr Armstrong, councillor of the 53rd ward refused to resign his seat.
A two-member Division Bench had earlier given a split verdict.
Justice Mishra said the State Election Commissioner need not withdraw the certificate of election given to Mr Armstrong.
Repoll in 98 wards would be held as scheduled on February 18.
