Rs 52 lakh worth red sanders seized
Chennai, Feb 16 (UNI) The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials today seized 10.57 metric tonne of red sanders, worth about Rs 52 lakh, from an export container at Chennai Harbour.
In a release here, DRI's Additional Director General P Babu said the export documents showed that 675 carton boxes containing handicrafts of clay were to be exported to Dubai in the name of a Bangalore-based company through the Chennai port.
The consignment was cleared by the customs at Puducherry and was brought to the harbour by a trailer. Preliminary investigation revealed that the container was tampered en route to stuff the red sander logs in place of declared cargo, he added.
