Repoll peaceful in Manipur

Imphal, Feb 16 (UNI) Repolling in Keirao Assembly seat in Imphal East ended peacefully today.

The repolling was ordered after the EVM was snatched away by a group of women on February 14 during the second phase of elections.

Meanwhile, hectic preparations were on for the third and last phase of polling to be held on February 23 in 12 Assembly segments in the Jiribam, Tamenglong, Churachandpur and Chandel districts.

Chandel has the maximum of ten candidates while Singhat has three.

There are only two women candidates. A total of 185,598 females and 177,752 males will cast their votes in 516 booths.

The Congress is contesting in 11 seats, LJSP-nine, RJD-six, Nationalist Congress Party and SP in fiveeach, Bharatiya Janata Party, Manipur People's Party and NPP in three each, CPI in four, SAP in two, JD(U) and PDA in one each and Independents in 23.
