Rajim Kumbh draws BJP flak
Raipur, Feb 16 (UNI) A parliamentarian owing allegiance to Chhattisgarh's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has allegedly raised eyebrows about crores of rupees being spent on Kumbh celebrations at Rajim, the confluence of three rivers.
This is the third year of such celebrations after the BJP surged to power in 2003. MP Gopal Vyas expressed annoyance and returned here without attending a single government programme. The Kumbh concludes today on Mahashivratri.
Despite several attempts, Mr Vyas could not be reached for comment. The parliamentarian indirectly hinted that he would speak about the matter only at party fora.
BJP sources said that Mr Vyas last evening went to Rajim, 45 km from here. However, he did not come on stage despite an invitation by state Tourism Minister Brijmohan Agrawal.
