EC issues show cause on Kang for violation of code

New Delhi, Feb 16 (UNI) The Election Commission (EC) today issued a show cause notice on the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) candidate from the Beas assembly constituency in Punjab Manjinder Singh Kang for violating various sections of the Model Code of Conduct.

According to EC sources, Mr Kang was issued show cause for ''threatening the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) over phone with consequences if his party comes to power in the state''.

This is a very serious matter, they said, adding that Mr Kang has been asked to explain his position by February 18.

The EC had postponed polling in the Beas assembly constituency from February 13 to March 11 in view of some disturbing incidents.
