Bullets seized from CPI(M) Secretary's suitcase
Chennai, Feb 16 (UNI) The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) today seized five rounds of .38 mm live bullets from a suitcase of Kerala State CPI(M) Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan at Kamaraj Domestic airport here.
Police said Mr Vijayan came to the airport to catch the Delhi-bound Jet Airways flight. When his suitcase was scanned by the CISF as part of a security check, the siren made noise.
On inspection, the authorities found the bullets. The CPI(M) leader told the CISF authorities that he was having a valid gun license and he came to Chennai from Kerala by train. By oversight, the bullets might have been kept in his suitcase.
The CISF and the police seized the bullets from his suitcase and obtained an undertaking from him to allow him to fly to Delhi.
However, by that time the flight had already left.
Following this, Mr Vijayan cancelled his Delhi trip this evening and told the authorities he would go by tomorrow morning flight and left the airport, police said.
