Bomb scare at Luton Airport is false alarm: Police

London, Feb 16: A controlled explosion was carried out on a car outside London's Luton Airport last night after a bomb alert caused part of the airport to be evacuated and disrupted a number of flights, police said.

Everything was getting back to normal by 11.30 pm 0400 HRS IST however, after the bomb squad declared the area safe.

''It's all over,'' said a Bedfordshire Police spokesman.

''We had a bomb scare,'' he said, noting that a man had called police with what turned out to be a false alarm.

As a precautionary measure, passengers and staff were evacuated from the departure terminal and a cordon put up. No flights were allowed to depart until the all-clear was given.

''We hope things will return to normal,'' the spokesman added.
