Uncle remanded over rape and death of girl, 2

LONDON, Feb 15 (Reuters) The uncle of two-year-old Casey Leigh Mullen appeared in court today charged with her rape and murder.

Michael Mullen, 21, from Leeds, did not enter a plea and spoke only to give his name, address and age during a short hearing at Leeds Magistrates' Court.

He was remanded in custody until next Wednesday.

The toddler was found dead at her home in Gipton, Leeds, on Sunday. A post mortem found she died from ''compression of the neck.'' Neighbours have left flowers, teddy bears and cards outside the three-bedroom family home.

One note read: ''To a little angel. Rest in peace.'' Another said: ''A little smiler. Up with the angels.'' REUTERS SP KP1750
