EC issues notification for council election

Jammu, Feb 15 (UNI) The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) today issued notification of the elections for eight Legislative Council seat falling vacant scheduled on March 5.

The CEO said in a release the last date of nominations is February 21 and scrutiny of nomination papers would take place on February 22.

The candidates could withdraw their candidature till February 25 and the elections would be held on March 5. The voter could exercise their vote from 1000 hrs to 1400 hrs.

Secretary J&K Legislative Assembly Iqbal Ganai has been designated as Returning Officer and Deputy Secretary J&K, Legislative Assembly as Assistant Returning Officer for these Biennial elections.

The first seat will fall vacant on March 10 following the retirement of Mr Abdul Rashid Dar. The present term for the rest of the seats will expire tomorrow.

The seats from Kashmir that would fall vacant were held by Abdul Rahman Tukroo, Gholam Rasool Kar and Gholam Nabi Shaheen. The other four from the Jammu regions were currently being represented by Legislative Council Chairman Abdul Rashid Dar, Iqbal Bhat (Doda), Brij Mohand, Mohammad Hussain and Nazir Ahmad Mir.
