Zarine, Ketan win Blind Mans Car Rally

Mumbai, Feb 14 (UNI) Ms Zarine H Havewala and blind navigator Ketan Kothari have emerged victorious in the 'Blind Mans Car Rally', organised by the Mumbai Chapter of Round Table India to raise funds for its projects under the ageis of national theme 'Freedom through Education'.

The duo beat 18 participants, who qualified for the event out of the 63 entries in the rally, with the minimum penalty of nine points, a release here today said.

This exceptional event with blind navigators, held yesterday, was a Time-Distance--Speed (TDS) Rally where visually impaired navigators partnered with the participants on approximately 70 km journey in Mumbai, commencing from the NAB building on Worli Sea Face. The navigators guided the participants through a series of check points.

The participants included professionals and executives from different walks of life.

The Blind Mans Car Rally, held in partnership with National Association for the Blind (NAB) is aimed at creating awareness about illiteracy in addition to highlighting the initiatives of Round Table India to eradicate illiteracy and the challenges faced by the Visually Impaired.

Ms Zarine was the winner in the special all-women's category too.

The 1st runner up for the overall category was Mr Paresh Varma and navigator S Karnik with penalty points 22. The 2nd runner up was Mr.

Samir Kapasi and navigator Jatin Shah with penalty points 23. The 1st runner up in the women category was Ms Rufina A Karmali and navigator Namdev Jadhav.

Round Table India is not an NGO. It is a zero-overhead organization - essentially an association of young enthusiasts who work together towards the better future of India by educating millions of underprivileged children, the release added.
