Stranded tourists evacuated from resorts in Shimla

Shimla, Feb 14 (UNI) The Shimla district administration has successfully evacuated all 80 tourists stranded in a resort at Kufri, 17 km from here, early today, Shimla SDM O P Kant said.

''The tourists stranded at Toshali Resorts at Kufri were evacuated at about 0230 hrs early today hours after a team, comprising a doctor, Jungah Naib Tehsildar and a Dhalli Police chowki incharge, arrived at the resort at about 2300 hrs late last night,'' he told UNI here.

Shimla Deputy Commissioner Tarun Kapoor had said yesterday about 80 people staying at Shellon Resorts, 10 km from Kufi, on the Kufri-Chail road, which was under 90 cm of snow, had set out on foot towards Kufri before taking shelter in Toshali Resorts after extreme cold and distance tired them out.

Mr Kant said a convoy of vehicles started for Shimla via Jungah at 0230 hrs from the resort after the Kufri-Chail Road had been cleared of snow by 2300 hrs.

All the tourists, including children, women and elderly people, left for their respective destinations from here at 0600 hrs dspite the administration requesting them to rest at the state capital for another day day, he said.

He said the team had managed to reach the resort with essential supplies at 2300 hrs late last night after the snow cutting machines cleared the road from both sides.
