Snowfall after 63 years in Kathmandu
Kathmandu, Feb 14 (UNI) Kathmandu Valley witnessed its first snowfall in 63 years today evening, which lasted only for a few minutes, dampening the excitement and spirits of the children.
The snowfall was part of a westerly disturbance over Nepal that had earlier caused about 20 mm of rain, weather officials said.
Moreover, some of the western and eastern hilly districts and mountainous regions have also witnessed heavy snowfall following continuous rain.
In Palpa district one died due to heavy rainfall and extreme cold.
The snowfall has disrupted flights and road transport in several outlying areas of the country. No domestic flights were operated today, officials at the Tribhuvan Airport said.
The entire nation was overcast today, while showers are likely to continue throughout tomorrow, the Metrological Forescasting Division said.
