Shiv Sainiks force shopkeepers to down shutters

Karnal, Feb 14 (UNI) Shiv Sena (Bal Thackeray) activists today forced shopkeepers selling flowers, bouquets and greeting cards to down their shutters on Valentine's day here today even as the police remained a mute spectator.

In a cavalcade headed by a hooter-fitted jeep, the Shiv Sainiks carried on their anti-Valentine campaign through local markets, including Purani Anaj Mandi, while three police vehicles closely followed them.

The Sena activists not only forced the shopkeepers to down their shutters, they also tore down the Valentine posters pasted outside shops.

The shops in the Mela Ram school market and Club market were closed down without any protests.
