Prof case: Bail plea hearing
Indore, Feb 14 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh High Court's Indore Bench today fixed February 23 as the next date of hearing on a bail plea by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad's Madhya Pradesh unit former president Shashiranjan Singh Akela who is prime accused in the murder of Ujjain's Prof Harbhajan Singh Sabharwal.
On February 9, the court directed the Crime Investigation Department (CID) to present video footage and the case diary. The bench had also said that the investigating officer (IO) should be present.
Justice S S Dwivedi was today informed that the IO was absent and the material sought was also not brought.
Prof Sabharwal died in violence sparked off by the postponement of a students' union poll at Madhav College. The CID named Akela and five others who were arrested and incarcerated at the Central Jail, Ujjain.
Earlier, Akela's bail petition was rejected by the District and Sessions Court, Ujjain.
