NTPC pays interim dividend of Rs 1,979cr

New Delhi, Feb 14 (UNI) Power generation company NTPC Ltd today said it has paid the highest ever interim dividend of Rs 1,978.92 crore at 24 per cent on the paid-up capital of the company for the financial year 2006-07.

NTPC Chairman and Managing Director T Sankaralingam presented a cheque of Rs 1,771.11 crore to the Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde here.

This is the 14th consecutive year that the company has paid dividend to the government.

In the current financial year, it registered a growth of 20.60 per cent in profit after tax (PAT) at Rs 5,130 crore for nine months ended December'06 as compared to Rs 4,254 crore in the corresponding period last year.

PAT for the third quarter ending December'06 stood at Rs 2,103 crore as compared to Rs 1,782 crore in the corresponding quarter last year, registering a growth of 18.05 per cent.

The company reported net sales of Rs 22,114 crore for the nine-month period ended December'06 as compared to Rs 18,851 crore in the same period last year at a growth of 17.31 per cent.

For the third quarter, NTPC reported net sales of Rs 8,147 crore as compared to Rs 6,869 crore during the same quarter previous year, up by 18.6 per cent.
