Mulayam expresses grief over former MP CM's demise

Lucknow, Feb 14 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today expressed grief over the demise of former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shayama Charan Shukla.

Mr Yadav said, ''Mr Shukla entered politics with his participation in the 'Quit India Movement' in 1942 and always strived to help the poorest of the poor.'' Mr Shukla was elected to MP Vidhan Sabha, first in 1957. Later, he represented Rajim assembly constituency in the assembly in 1962, 1967 and 1972. He became Irrigation minister of MP in 1967 and Chief Minister in 1969. Later on December 23, 1975, he was elected as the leader of the Congress legislature party and he continued as Chief Minister till April 1977, Mr Yadav added.

Mr Shukla died after a prolonged illness in Raipur, MP, this morning.
