Shimla, Feb 14 (UNI) Shimla and its adjoining areas were experiencing another fresh spell of intermittent snowfall since afternoon even as the district administration struggles to clear snow on the roads.

The state capital and other adjoining areas were experiencing mild snowfall followed by sleet since afternoon after receiving three cm of fresh snow overnight, the met office said here.

It said Shimla had so far received about 101.2 cm of snow during the past four days, adding strong western disturbance over the adjoining Jammu and Kashmir and northern Pakistan was responsible for the heavy snow.

The famous tourist resort of Kufri, about 17 km from here, had already experienced about three cm of fresh snowfall up till 1430 hrs.

The met office said intense coldwave was prevailing in the town with the minimum at the state capital dipping to minus 1.1 degree Celsius.

Shimla Deputy Commissioner Tarun Kapoor told UNI here the Hindustan-Tibet road between Shimla and Narkanda, about 55 km from here, was open since yesterday, the vehicular movement on the road was restricted due to more snow and immobilised vehicles slipping over the snow.

Small vehicles were plying on the road since yesterday and movement of heavy vehicles between Shimla and Narkanda was likely to resume soon, he said.
