Meghalaya celebrates Valentine's Day

Shillong, Feb 14 (UNI) The young and the old alike today celebrated the Valentine's Day in this pine city.

The Meghalaya Agriculture department also joined in the celebration by hosting a strawberry festival here at the All Saints Cathedral hall.

''We decided to host the strawberry festival today, since it is connected with this festival of hearts,'' said state's Horticulturist Evan Shanpru.

''Strawberries and red roses are the best gift for my husband on this day,'' said Vandana Rai, who came all the way from Imphal to celebrate Valentine's Day here.

But the day really belongs to young couples who expressed their undying love for one another. They celebrated the day with much enthusiasm and spirit typical to their fun loving nature.

Restaurants and other tourist spots were flooded with youngesters.

The venue of the ''strawberry festival'' also witnessed the flow of love-birds buying strawberries and listening to love songs.

''Shillong is the best place to celebrate Valentine's Day, as no one's bothered to disrupt the occasion,'' said Reshma Goswami and her fiance Sachin Gogoi, who came all the way from Asom to make this occasion a memorable one.
