Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 14: The Kerala government today decided to relax two years of imprisonment for life term prisoners as part of golden jubilee celebration of the state's formation.

Apart from this, the Cabinet which met here today also decided to relax 15 days for persons undergoing three months imprisonment, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan told reporters here.

The decision to revise the imprisonment period would be recommended to the Governor soon, he said.

It was also decided to appoint Dr E P Esodhanan as the executive vice chairman of the Science and Technology Committee. Mr Achuthanandan said the ''Padashekara Samiti'' (Paddy field protection committee) and the Kerala Karshaka Sangham would procure rice in Thrissur.

When asked if any inquiry has been initiated against the violence which erupted during yesterday's march by the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, he said the inspector general of police has been asked to give a report and further action would be taken based on this report.

Asked if the government would inquire into CPI(M) state secretary's allegation of a ''media syndicate'' and that media persons were writing articles after taking money, Mr Achutanandan said if such a proposal came from the media, then it would be looked into.
