Intense cold wave grips Sikkim
Gangtok, Feb 14 (UNI) The Himalayan state of Sikkim is reeling under cold wave like condition as the mercury plummeted to 3.9 degree Celsisus today.
All areas above 600 feet and beyond experienced snowfall.
Visibility was also very low due to a thick fog cover.
According to the local weather office here a low pressure zone was created over the north eastern region following western disturbances causing rain, fog, snowfall and the cold wave like conditions.
The MET office had also predicted the weather condition was likely to continue for another 24 hours.
But despite that life was normal. All schools, colleges and offices were opened. The cold also failed to dampen the spirit of the teenagers who were out to celebrate Valentine day and thronged the market places to buy gifts for their loved ones.
