Five-member rowdy gang with weapons held

Chennai, Feb 14: Police arrested a five-member rowdy gang from Tiruvotriyur in North Chennai, according to City Police Commissioner Letika Saran.

Talking to reporters here yesterday, she said the rowdies were arrested during a routine vehicle check on Monday.

The police also seized weapons from them, she added.

The arrestred were identified as John Jai Singh (36), a two-time detainee under Goondas Act with more than six arrest warrants pending, Suresh (30), Durai (28), Elilarasan (24) and Subramanian (25).

Later, they were remanded to judicial custody.

She said the city police had arrested a nine-member gang on charges of burglary and had recovered booty worth Rs nine lakh.
