Constable killed during encounter; 4 auto lifters arrested

New Delhi, Feb 14 (UNI) A constable of the Delhi Police died and two others injured during an encounter with a gang of auto thieves in New Friends Colony area of South Delhi this morning. Four of the culprits have been arrested.

Constable Brij Bhushan, who got injured by a bullet shot by his associate Head Constable Ramhit during the 'operation', later died at the Holy Family Hospital, said the police.

Head Constable Ramhit and Constable Jagat, who were also injured in the 'operation', were being treated.

The encounter, which followed after the police team tried to nab the accused in a chase, took place after hours of waiting for them following a tip-off late last night.

The four accused, who were later arrested, revealed that they belonged to a 20-member gang of auto thieves and were involved in more than 40 cases of vehicle theft.
