Abdul Qayyum remanded in police custody

Mumbai, Feb 14 (UNI) A Special MCOCA court today remanded Abdul Qayyum Sheikh, aide to underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, in police custody till February 28, in a shootout case of a businessman at Juhu in 1999.

Sheikh, who is believed to have been deported from Dubai after languishing for two months in jail there, was produced before MCOCA (Maharashtra Control for Organised Crime Act) court Judge Mridula Bhatkar this afternoon for his alleged involvement in a shoot out at businessman Pujara in 1999.

Mumbai police, however, claimed that Qayyam was arrested at Panjrapol Junction, near Sion-Trombay road at Chembur in north-east Mumbai yesterday on a tip-off.

He was wanted in several cases registered in the city since the last 15 years. During interrogation, it was revealed that he had taken shelter in Gulf countries and was closely associated with notorious gangster Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar and his brothers. He was wanted for offences like murder, attempt to commit murder and extortion in the metropolis with the help of his associates.

It was also revealed that he fled to Dubai in 1991 and he was conducting his nefarious activities from there. Before leaving for Dubai, he was engaged in property business and owned a tailoring shop at Mahim.
