85 per cent polling in second phase Manipur elections

Imphal, Feb 14 (UNI) Between 85 and 90 per cent polling was recorded today in the second phase of elections in Manipur, which passed off peacefully.

Polling was held today in 29 assembly seats in three districts of the state involving around eight lakh voters.

Election officials here said the polling ended at 1530 hours in the districts of Imphal East, West and Bishenpur.

They said the election was largely peaceful barring a few minor incidents.

The officials said 86 per cent polling was recorded in Imphal East, 84 per cent in Imphal West and 85 per cent in Bishenpur.

The Election Commission in New Delhi said the second phase of voting in the state witnessed about 85 to 90 per cent turnout.

Fourteen EVMs did not function properly and had to be replaced.

Similar problems were also noticed in the first phase of the elections held on February 8 in which some EVMs machines did not function properly.
