5 women die after taking herbal decoction

Jashpur, Chhattisgarh, Feb 14 (UNI) Five tribal women died after consuming herbal decoction yesterday at village Kilkila near Pathalgaon in this district of Chhattisgarh.

The medicine, mixing about 21 herbs, was prepared in traditional style to be served to a 30-year-old tribal woman, Sukunti Bai, who delivered a baby girl three days ago. About 20 women of the village also consumed it.

Police sources today said three women, whose condition deteriorated after taking the medicine, were taken to Pathalgaon PHC, where they died yesterday. Two other women died in the village itself.

Meanwhile, police detained tribal Vaidya Jamal Sai, who collected the herbal medicines from the forest, for interrogation. The condition of others who had taken medicicine was out of danger, police added.
