Valentine's Day for HIV/AIDS couples
Chennai, Feb 13 (UNI) It was an occasion to express their love for life when HIV/AIDS-affected couples came together to celebrate the Valentine's Day here today.
Ten couples, living with HIV/AIDS, congregated at a posh shopping mall here and celebrated life by exchanging roses, gifts and cards amid gentle flow of romantic songs.
''Participating in such events helps us to overcome depression and pain,'' said Meena who had been living with HIV/AIDS for the last ten years.
''We realise how precious life is. We are celebrating the Valentine's Day to avow our love not only for life but also for fellow human beings,'' said Radha who had HIV.
Indoor games and general quiz were also conducted for the couples on the occasion. They also shared their experiences and created hope for positive people on leading a normal life.
Ms Brooke Spelman, United States Vice Consul General in Chennai, inaugurated the celebration organised by Indian Community Welfare Organisation (ICWO), an NGO.
ICWO Secretary A J Hariharan said the celebration was organised to create awareness and rekindle hope for HIV/AIDS-affected people to adopt positive living.
