Traffic on JK highway disrupted due to landslides
Srinagar, Feb 13: Overnight rains triggered fresh landslides at Penthal, disrupting normal traffic on the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway today.
Traffic on the highway, the only road linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, was suspended after fresh landslides at Penthal.
However, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) responsible for the maintenance of the highway immediately pressed into service men and machines and made the road traffic worthy.
A traffic police official said that traffic on the highway was restored this afternoon after receiving the green signal from the BRO and traffic police officials deployed in the landslide prone area.
He said there will be Jammu to Srinagar traffic today and no vehicle will be allowed from here.
Meanwhile, the people in the Kashmir valley are under the grip of severe cold following fresh snowfall on the upper reaches and rains in plains.
The rains in the plains have disrupted normal life as almost all the roads in the city are damaged with big holes filled with water and mud, making the movement of vehicles and pedestrians difficult.
