Punjab records 65.1 per cent voter turnout: EC
New Delhi, Feb 13 (UNI) An estimated 65.1 per cent of the 1.66 crore electorate in Punjab exercised its franchise in the elections to 115 of the 117 assembly seats, the Election Commission said here today.
Deputy Election Commissioner R Bhattacharjee told newspersons that barring some minor incidents polling passed off peacefully in the state. Ten candidates, the highest in the state, are in the fray from Amritsar.
He said an FIR has been registered at Majitha against Punjab Finance Minister and party nominee from Amritsar assembly constituency Surinder Singla for allegedly slapping an election official, he said.
