Lata gets reprieve from HC

Mumbai, Feb 13 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today gave a reprieve to melody queen Lata Mangeshkar, permitting her to retain the additional 2,000 sq metre of land at Kolhapur that houses the Balaji Phendarkar studios.

A Division Bench comprising Justice F I Rebello and Justice S A Wajifdar passed the order.

Lata had moved the Bombay High Court challenging the State government's decision to deny her permission to retain an additional 2,000 sq metre land in Kolhapur under the Urban Land (Ceiling and Regulation) Act.

In her petition, Lata stated that she owned two plots measuring 38,623 sq mt in the Kolhapur Urban Agglomeration. Her contention is that Section 4 (d) of ULCR Act entitles her to hold an additional 2000 sq metre of land.

The State government had declared 31,852 sq metres as excess land, which was later revised to 23,889 sq mt but she was denied the additional 2,000 sq mt land.

The court has directed the State government to conduct land measurements afresh and communiciate the same to it within six weeks.
