Patna, Feb 13 (UNI) Railway minister Lalu Prasad's inlaws had to pay a fine of Rs 1870 as excess fare ticket after they were detected travelling in Bihar Sampark Kranti Express without valid ticket today.

Official sources said Mr Prasad's father-in-law Shiv Prasad Choudhury and his wife Maharajo Devi also violated provisions of the Railway Act by boarding a superfast train for travelling short distance.

The couple boarded Darbhanga-New Delhi Bihar Sampark Kranti Express at Hajipur and during routine checking near Chhapra, travellers' ticket examiner Jata Shankar Tiwari found them travelling in a first class A/C coach without valid ticket, sources added.

The Railway Minister's in-laws later produced an open first class ticket from Hajipur to Siwan which was not enough to entitle to undertake the journey in the superfast train and hence the fine was realised from them, sources maintained.
