India poised for a lead role in semiconductor design ecosystem
Bangalore, Feb 13 (UNI) India is well poised to play a lead role in the global semiconductor design ecosystem given its talent availability and scalability and quality of education.
This was the outcome of a benchmark study on India in global Semiconductor Design ecosystem carried out by the India Semiconductor Association and Ernst and Young consultants.
The finds of the survey and quantitative benchmarking study clearly demonstrate that the country's core strengts were the current availability and future scalability of its talent and its talent cost advantage.
To maintain this lead India need to improve the quality of its talent and the quality of its technical education, ISA President Poornima Shenoy told newsmen here today.
The study unveiled here also saw India well placed on operational costs with an IPR regime which was reasonably good, thoguh there was scope for improvement.
The rating of the country however was moderate on few other factors such as maturity of semiconductor design sector, availability of good physical infrastructure and semiconductor market potential. the pace of improvement in physical infrastructure need to be hastened the study said if Indian semiconductor design ecosystem should emerge truly world class, She added.
China along with India was perceived to have the best talent cost advantage followed closely by the Czech Republic, with the US having the least advantage.
India had the third largest pool of overall engineering talent among the peer group of countries. Less than five per cent of this pool of over 1.5 million were employed in semiconductor design.
