Curfew remains in force in MP town
Indore, Feb 13 (UNI) Curfew was lifted from four police station areas here today while it continued in three police station areas even as the situation remained under control.
Curfew was clamped on Chhatripura, Pandrinath and Malharganj police station areas following a clash between members of two communities yesterday. Later, curfew was imposed in four other police station areas.
The violence had started following an incident of eve-teasing in Mukeripura area. Police lobbed teargas shells and resorted to mild cane charge to disperse the violent mob engaged in arson, stoning and rampage.
Many people were injured and several shops damaged during the incident. Some vehicles were also set on fire by the mob.
Though night curfew in four police station areas was lifted but it continued in more sensitive areas like Chhatripura, Pandrinath and Malharganj.
In these areas, women were allowed to collect water from 0600 hrs to 0800 hrs.
Incharge Collector Renu Pant said no untoward incident was reported. The situation will be reviewed at 1600 hrs.
Meanwhile, two Rapid Action Force (RAF) teams had been requistioned from the state capital. Besides RAF teams, additional police force and armed police force had been deployed in the affected areas.
PWD Minister Kailash Vijaywargiya reached here last night and reviewed the situation.
Schools and colleges remained closed in the three police station areas.
Life was limping back to normalcy in other parts of the city.
