Indore, Feb 13: Curfew was lifted from four police station areas while it remained in force today in three police station areas as the situation remained under control.

Curfew was clamped in Chhatripura, Pandrinath and Malharganj police station areas following clash between members of two communities yesterday. Later, curfew was imposed in four other police station areas.

The violence had started following an incident of eve-teasing in Mukeripura area. Police lobbed teargas shells and resorted to mild cane charge to disperse the violent mob engaged in arson, stoning and rampage.

Some people were injured during the incident. Several shops were damaged during ransacking and arson, while some vehicles were set on fire.

Though night curfew in four police station areas was lifted, it continued to remain in force in more sensitive Chhatripura, Pandrinath and Malharganj police station areas.

In these areas, women were allowed to collect water from 0600 hrs to 0800 hrs.

Incharge Collector Renu Pant said no untoward incident was reported. The situation will be reviewed at 1600 hrs.

Meanwhile, two Rapid Action Force (RAF) teams had been requistioned from the state capital. Besides RAF teams, additional police force and armed police force had been deployed.

PWD Minister Kailash Vijaywargiya reached here last night and reviewed the situation.

Meanwhile, schools and colleges remained closed in the three police station areas. Schools were also closed in other areas.

Life was limping to normalcy in other parts of the city. However, bus services remained affected.
