Shimla, Feb 13 (UNI) Corporal punishment in all private schools of Himachal Pradesh is banned but the head of any educational institution could impose a fine of Rs five on an errant student, an official spokesman today said.

The head of institution could impose a fine of Rs. five on an erring student who comes to the school late, used foul language and other bad habits, he said in a release here.

The spokesman said expulsion or rustication of a student for serious misconduct could also be resorted to after the approval of the Deputy Director concerned, (Higher Education) of the districts.

However, the period of rustication or expulsion would not exceed one academic year, he said.

He said an institution would suspend a student temporarily for misconduct for immediate deterrent effect and this punishment would be terminated if the student gives in writing a promise of good conduct in future along with an assurance of student's good conduct by the parent or guardian, failing which the head may recommend expulsion of the student for one year to the concerned Deputy Director, (Higher Education).
