CM's wife made to wait to cast vote

Patiala, Feb 13 (UNI) Preneet Kaur, Member Parliament from Patiala and wife of Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, was turned away from the polling booth this morning as she failed to produce her voter I-card.

Ms Kaur, upset over her inability to exercise her voting rights, however, returned home to locate the mis-placed document and on finding it, rushed back to cast vote at Yadvindra Public School(YPS) presumably for her husband, who is seeking re-election from Patiala.

Earlier, the presiding officer of the election booth had refused to allow Preneet Kaur to cast her vote in the absence of I-card when she accompanied Captain Amarinder Singh to cast the vote in the morning.

Ms Kaur had apparently misplaced her I-card in her house where she had kept it along with the I-card of Captain Amarinder Singh.

The voter I-card of Capt Singh was also missing in the morning but was traced, family sources said.

The Election Commission has allowed other sources of identification for voters who were not issued I-cards. However, Preneet Kaur's name figured in the list of voters who had received I-cards issued by EC.
