Bribe for inter-caste marriage certificate: official held

Madurai, Feb 13 (UNI) A Social Welfare Department official, who received a bribe for issuing a certificate to a couple stating that they married inter-caste, was caught red-handed by vigilance sleuths here today.

The couple, Kannan (26) and Kaleeswari (21), approached the official, Anbarasi, who demanded a bribe to issue the certificate based on which they could claim Government assistance granted for couples who had married outside their caste.

When they expressed their inability, the official reportedly pressed for Rs 1000. At this juncture, the couple informed vigilance personnel, who laid a trap.

Today, Anbarasi was caught red handed and arrested.
