BJP fields Yashodhara Raje Scindia for Gwalior bypoll
New Delhi, Feb 13 (UNI) The BJP today fielded Madhya Pradesh Tourism Minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia from the prestigious Gwalior seat and National Scheduled Tribes Commission Chairman Kunwar Singh from Sidhi for the by-elections to the two Lok Sabha constituencies.
The by-elections to these constituencies were necessitated by the disqualification of sitting MPs in the cash-for-query scam.
The Central Election Committee meeting, presided by BJP President Rajnath Singh, attended by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and other members, also chose to nominate Mrs Shashi Prabha, the wife of its Vidisha MP Rampal Singh from Udaypura Assembly bypolls.
While the party is fielding Mr Y Wongto Chang from Tuensang Sadar II (ST) constituency, it has not finalised the name for Dimapur constituency, Mr Ananth Kumar, BJP General Secretary and Secretary of BJP Central Election Committee told mediapersons.
The party has also decided to field all the eight candidates for all the eight graduate constituencies in the Legislative Council Elections in Andhra Pradesh. The chosen candidates are Mr J Pruthviraj from Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Vishakha Patnam, Mr P Venkata Satyanarayana (East Godavari and West Godavari), Mr Majeti Papa Rao (Krishna and Guntur), Mr D Radhakrishna Reddy (Prakasam, Nellore and Chittor), Mr M S Parthasarathi (Kadapa, Anmanthapur and Kurnool), Mr G R Karunakar (Mahboobnagar, Rangareddy and Hyderabad), Mr P Venkatanarayana Reddy (Medak, Nizamabad, Adilabad and Karimnagar) and Mr G Narasaiah (Warangal, Khammam and Nalgonda).
Asked about the absence of Mr Advani and BJP General Secretary Arun Jaitley from the meeting, Mr Ananthkumar said all those who could make it to the meeting in Delhi attended it. Many of the absentees were busy with poll campaign in the states of Uttarakhand, Punjab and Manipur.
