New Delhi, Feb 13 (UNI) To address critical security needs against terrorism, Agrani Telecom Ltd, an Essel Group venture, today unveiled a new and explosive detection technology that takes less than two seconds to detect explosives without X-rays.

The technology, Holographic Millimetre Wave Imaging, can detect concealed and hidden threats such as metallic and non-metallic weapons and virtully all known explosives, drugs and other contraband without X-rays or physical pat-down search method.

''A person is scanned through L-3 SafeView's ProVision low power active millimetre wave body screening portals. A scanned image is formed in less than a second, being watched by a security personnel, who can raise alarm on the finding of some unwanted hidden object in that person,'' said Mr John Marsala, Vice President of L-3 Communications, a US-based scanning technology developer, which has developed this technology.

''The technology makes a critical difference in strengthening checkpoint security, especially in high-risk areas such as airports,'' Agranio Chief Executive Officer K Satyanarayan told reporters.

Agrani is undertaking field trials of the technology in the country. ''We are in talks with some government agencies and private players, who have shown interest in installing the system in their premises for evaluation,'' company Vice President (Products and Sales) C S Menon said.

From February-end the system will be used in Parliament and other government institutions, he added. It is already in use at Palam airport, he added.
