UP govt withdraws gunners from 776 student leaders

Lucknow, Feb 12 (UNI) Following the High Court orders, Uttar Pradesh government has withdrawn gunners from 776 student leaders in the state.

''The state government is abiding by the HC orders. We are withdrawing the gunners from all such student leaders with criminal records,'' special secretary (Home) Ashok Kumar Verma said here.

In December 2006, the HC had passed the order for the withdrawal of gunners. Later, the UP government challenged the HC judgement in the Supreme Court, which was rejected today, Mr Verma added.
